KAAFIR

                        KAAFIR

·         Dia Mirza as Kainaaz Akhtar
·         Mohit Raina as Vedant Rathod
It is inspired by the true story of Shehnaz Parveen

There are movies galore. In the movie theatres, on the television and even on the social media. But once in a while there comes a movie which zooms high into the skies and shines like a mega star .
I would certainly rate the movie ‘ Kaafir’ in this category.
Kaafir  was released in 2019. Though I see a lot of movies but I don’t know how I missed it.
Recently I saw it and was overwhelmed by its theme and message of humanity.
The movie is about Kainaaz Akhtar who strays into India from POK and  Vedant Rathore a journalist who helps her in getting back to her home. The journey back home for her is full of struggle and painful.
She is arrested by BSF and labeled as a terrorist and thrown in the jail. She undergoes 7 years of agonizing  term behind bars. She is raped in the prison and gives birth to a child. Vedant Rathore comes to her rescue. He fights numerous battles in the court to get her released. He fights with the bureaucracy , he fights with the groups who attacks her because she is a Muslim. He gives her shelter.

The movie forces you to think that whether religion  has put so much hatred in our hearts that humanity has no place in it. Should our actions towards others be determined by the religion which that person follows. But this is the tragedy of our times. Since the division of India in 1947 certain sections of our society have fueled so much hindu muslim hatred just to serve their narrow ends. Mostly for gaining  power . Both India and Pakistan governments want this hatred and division to continue. They forget that humans live in both countries. Humanity should rule our hearts and not hatred.

Coming to the movie now. Vedant and Kainaaz comes closer to each. They like each other and perhaps love each other. But they keep their feelings suppressed . They just fall short of expressing their feelings fully to each other. Their eyes and sometimes a tender hug or touch exposes the turbulence in their hearts. There is a barrier between them. She is a Pakistani and he is a Indian. She is a Muslim and he is a Hindu. We live in a system based on religion and not on humanity. God created humans but we wrapped humans  in foils of religion.

Sometimes I think what good has religion done to us. It has provoked wars , murders and hatred. Infact everything opposite to what  religion  supposedly stands for. It has made us inhuman and bigots.
But why? The only reason for this which comes to my mind is because God never created religion. It is the humans which created religion. God resides in our heart. We fail to hear him. We follow  religion because it is more convenient to do so.

In end I would only add  that there is so much in common between the two countries like language ,history ,cuisine, culture etc so why the hatred and mistrust

I have not revealed the end of the movie. Do  see the movie if you get time.

AUNTY VIDYA

Let me remember . Yes it was the year 1971. I was in Vienna searching for a job. My visa was going to expire in a few days but I was not successful in getting a job. I uses to live in a paying guest apartment run by a Indian lady Vidya. The apartment was located in 3rd district – Landstrasse ,a sedate locality of Vienna . It was inhabited by middle class people who were not very well off.

But the rent was reasonable and I could afford it. The apartment was divided into four parts plus a small room. Vidya gave me this room . The cheapest I could afford.

She used to take special care of me since I was from India. She would ensure that I was well fed. And yes she was a fantastic cook. She came from India with her parents in 1945. Married and settled here. Soon afterwards her parents died and then some 5 years back her husband also expired. She became a widow. She converted her apartment into a paying guest accommodation to sustain herself.

I was not able to find a job and slowly whatever money I had just vanished. I was in a state of depression .One day Aunty Vidya was watering the plants on the balcony . I went to her and narrated my ordeal to her. She sympathically listened to me .

She told me " Ashok, life is not only hard but cruel. There are people who cannot carry the burden and collapse. But you are brave. I am sure you would succeed in life. Come with me.

"

She gave me some money and told me that her husband was working in a Bank in Vienna. She would talk to the Bank Chairman and see whether I could get a job there. In a few days I got a job. My visa was renewed. I stayed with Aunty Vidya for 5 years and took care of her.

Due to certain domestic compulsions I had to return to India. Due to my job experience in Vienna I got a good job in Delhi.

I would always remain indebted to Aunty Vidya for her compassion and helping me out in my most distressful times. She is no more now but she would always reside in my heart.

It is 40 years now since I met her . I have tried to paint her portrait from memory. A tribute to a great soul.

Thanks

RSS

https://www.hindustantimes.com/analysis/why-india-won-t-become-a-hindu-pakistan/story-55hyGT9UvxYsEBtZDkSwrO.html

 Dear Mr. Vaidya,                                                                                                              8.8.18

I read your article in the Hindustan Times dated 8.8.18. As a senior member of the RSS you have the right to come out with your version of Hindutva and criticize those who do not agree with your view point. Similarly  those who do not agree with the RSS version of how India should run have the right to put forth their views. Rigidity has no place if India has to progress and compete with other nations of the world. Let the people decide what is good for them. Unfortunately RSS is built on the foundation of rigidity and violently reacts whenever it is presented with a view other than its own. Today when RSS/BJP is ruling almost the entire country we see the disastrous results of this blind adherence to a outdated ideology completely out of tune with the modern times. Lynchings and demeaning of minorities. Support of these actions by senior political and RSS leaders. The violent calls for building Ram Mandir after demolishing the Babri Masjid. The introduction of unscientific courses in school curriculum. Introducing of spurious historical texts in school books to show Muslims in bad light.

As a common Hindu citizen I find there is poison in the air. The multi multiculturalism which we enjoyed till a few years back is slowly vanishing being replaced by hostility and hate .

Sir as a learned person you must be aware that no nation can progress under the above circumstance us. The RSS is not serving the country by resorting to revenge for some atrocities committed thousands of years back. It is also not serving the country by trying to revive corpses of ancients texts which are meaningless. It is also not serving the country by making dubious claims of rocket science, organ transplants etc as part of ancient India achievements. Infact this job of glorifying Hindus on the basis of wrong facts is the most dangerous. This injects among the people a sense of false superiority which seriously hinders their ability to absorb new ideas .

Recently the Mughal Sarai railway station name has been changed to Deen Dayal Upadhya .What was the purpose? Can anybody explain? Were not the Mughals a part of India? Did they not rule here for 1000 yrs? Facts are sacred. There is nothing to be ashamed of. We should learn from it rather than try to sweep it under the carpet. The Muslim invasion was successful because of disunited Hindu kingdoms and the lack of notion of a nation. Each Hindu kingdom was a nation in itself. Casteism was the other evil which divided the Hindus. So why blame the Muslims? We were victims of our own drawbacks. Today the RSS instead of reforming the Hindu society and removing useless rituals and caste system is working in the opposite direction. Its main job has become to put the blame on Muslims and if not on Muslims then on Christians for all the ills in the society. RSS is tearing apart society and committing the original sin which facilated the Muslim invasion.

With regard to your article I would like to offer the following additional comments :

1.You have expressed your rage against the word Hindu Pakistan. Can you please categorically deny that the primary  goal of the RSS is establishing a Hindu Rashtra. The guiding policy of the RSS is a secret document. It has never been revealed. So why not reveal it to the world. What is the hesitation? Everything will become clear. Till then by the actions and the verbal content of the RSS it is clear that the RSS goal is India for Hindus. Many times the RSS leaders have objected to the word secularism in the constitution. What is the meaning of this? India is a country of many religions and many races. Secularism binds all these various elements into one. So the objection with secularism is rather strange. Pakistan is a Muslim state. So a Hindu Rashtra is obviously  a Hindu Pakistan. What is wrong with the word?

Dragging the evangical church into this was rather unnecessary without any evidence. It only shows RSS desperate attempts to hide its ineffective antique policies by blaming other communities.

2. There are lots of half truths in your article. I don't know how you have reached the conclusion that students have been deprived of knowledge of Indian culture. This could be true during the British times. Unfortunately your organisation never participated in the freedom movement. There is no evidence of this. Infact many of your leaders pre 1947 even begged for pardon. That time RSS never raised this issue. After 1947 it was the Congress who was in power overhauled the education system. All the historical facts which comprised of Indian culture was introduced in the text books. Even those who studied in missionary schools were studying Indian culture. Ancient Indian studies were also part of the curriculum. Of course fancy imaginations about ancient India which you love was not there. The focus was on multiculturalism and brotherhood .Every religion was given equal importance and the children were taught to respect each other irrespective of religion. That was true Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, a word which the RSS often uses but never believes in. unfortunately this is rapidly vanishing under the BJP/RSS rule.

3. You have stressed a lot on pluralism, tolerance and have claimed that these are the guiding principles of the RSS. But where is the evidence on the ground. Recently a senior leader of yours have said that till people eat cow lynching's will continue. There are so many statements from RSS leaders and leaders of its affiliated organisations threatening the minorities that is difficult to mention each one of them here. In any case it is for everybody to see that on ground the RSS is quite different from what they preach. It almost seems that is a cleverly molded policy of the RSS to cover itself with a angelic cloak hiding a dagger underneath. Ask any common Hindu citizen and he would say the RSS never talks about abolishing caste system and meaningless rituals. They are only good at blaming others and pitting Hindus against other communities. This is not good for the people or the nation.

4. Hindutva has been claimed by you in the article as the way to tolerance and brotherhood. This is entirely false. Hindutva is not Hinduism. All the attributes of Hinduism such as the entire world is a big family and all paths lead to one God has never been practices by the RSS. If this was true then secularism would not be a hate word for RSS. Liberals would not be hated by the RSS. Babri Masjit would not have demolished. Muslim would not have been lynched. Mr. Modi would have refused the skull cap. Churches would not have been vandalized. Mother Teresa would not have insulted. There would have been a atmosphere of peace and love. No Sir you are practicing Hindutva and not Hinduism.

5. Now to the eminent personalities you quoted in your article to support your false identity as a liberal and secular organisation. RSS ideologue Dinanath Batra recently asked for removal of works of Rabindranath Tagore from all text books. This is the respect which RSS has for a great Indian soul who brought accolades for this nation. Regarding Pranab Mukherjee let us not forget that Mr. Pranab was part of the government that banned RSS in 1992 and he authored the Burari resolution which took strong view on RSS. Apart from this he gave a strong message to the RSS during his recent speech in Nagpur. He said

"Soul Of India Is Pluralism, Tolerance"This advise was given by him because obviously the RSS was not following it. Hope apart from quoting him in the article you would take active steps to follow his advise sincerely

In the end I would say that the majority of this country are Hindus and they are faithfully following the tenets of Hinduism. Please don't enforce upon them your variety of Hinduism which is aggressive, intolerant, divisive and violent Hindutva. The world regards India for its pluralism and tolerance. RSS is a product of partition .That does not mean it should forever stick to this mentality. Please take the nation forward towards progress and scientific development instead of being stuck in this Hindu Muslim conflict.

With regards.

Thanks

ASHOK KUMAR

EVERY MAN DIES ALONE

EVERY MAN DIES ALONE BY HANS FALLADA
22.4.18
I had never heard of Hans Fallada. Recently  I went to a book exhibition and out of curiosity entered a conference room. I sat on a back seat. The topic was great books written by little known authors. There for the first time I heard the name of Hans Fallada a German author who lived in Berlin during the Nazi regime. I purchased his book 'Every man dies alone' written in 1944.
It is a extraordinary story of a old German couple Otto Quangel and Anna whose only son dies in the war.
The couple realizes that the Nazi regime is cruel and that ordinary people are being killed ,tortured and made to endure endless hardships just to satisfy the needs of a insane ideology.
The Jews were hunted and exterminated. A extraordinary censor was imposed on the people. Everyone was being spied upon. The Gestapo and the SS were a law unto themselves. The courts became a part of the Nazi regime and instead of  dispensing justice were issuing death sentences to anyone suspected of raising the voice against the Nazi regime.
The middle classes and the common man just did not raise enough voices against these injustices. Most of the people remained silent and did not want to invite any trouble by raising their voices against the policies and actions of the Nazi regime.
Under these troublesome conditions the old couple decided that something has to be done to make the people aware that the Nazis were taking the country to the dogs. Hitler was behaving like a mad person and was waging war after war and taking over countries. Countless lives were being lost. All this was being done in the name of German nationalism. A distorted nationalism which aimed to destroy everything in its path. A nationalism which had no place for decency and humanity A meaningless nationalism  which defined love for the country as hate against those who do not agree with their definition of nationalism. Following are some quotes from the book.

1. " Because you could see it with your eyes closed, the way they were making separations between ordinary citizens and Party members. Even the worst Party member was worth more to them than the best ordinary citizen."
2. " But foreman Quangel liked equality and fair-dealing. To him a human being was a human being, whether he was in the Party or not.
3. “But the main thing is that we remain different from them, that we never allow ourselves to be made into them, or start thinking as they do. Even if they conquer the whole world, we must refuse to become Nazis.”
4. We are like good seeds in a field of weeds. If it wasn’t for the good seeds, the whole field would be nothing but weeds. And the good seeds can spread their influence…
5. “Show me one that isn’t afraid!” said the brownshirt contemptuously. “And it’s so unnecessary. They just need to do what we tell them. It’s because people have got in the habit of thinking. They have the idea that thinking will help them. They need to do as they’re told. The Führer can do their thinking for them.”

The old couple decided to write small cards educating the people about the evils of Hitler regime. Their sons being slaughtered in the unnecessary war waged by Hitler. The injustices being meted by courts by giving out biased judgments. The hate against the Jews and their killings. The couple used to enter surreptitiously residential buildings and office complexes and drop these cards. After some time these postcards came to the notice of the Gestapo and they started their investigation.  And  one day the Gestapo catches up with them. They are arrested.
They are sentenced to death and till the end remain defiant to the cruel tortures of the Gestapo .
They die with their decency intact their heads held high.

As I read the novel it reminded me of the current state of affairs of our nation. It seemed to me we are also moving on the same path which the Nazi regime treaded some 80 years back. A vicious version of nationalism which we had never heard before is being thrust upon us. A religious nationalism in which Hindutva is the God and humans and humanity has no place in it. Where killings and lynching's of Muslims, demeaning of minorities are overlooked with a snide smile. Heinous crimes like rapes of minorities are defended. Perpetuators of genocides of minorities are set free by the courts. Cases of those involved in such communal crimes are withdrawn. If anybody questions these acts they are labeled as anti nationals. Judiciary refuses to hear petitions asking for enquiry into suspicious deaths allegedly by state actors. Such petitions are termed as insult to the judiciary by the highest court. Media instead of questioning the rulers questions the opposition.
I would suggest that you must read this book and decide for yourself whether you would prefer silence or raise your voice if such a Nazi like situation is developing in our country. Nazi Germany was ultimately destroyed but at what cost. Nobody wants that to happen here.
Hans Fallada wrote this book in 24 days and thereafter died before it was published.

THE CONTRACTOR BY RAYMOND DAVIS

                                                           REVIEW                                     26.10.17

Way back in 2011 everybody came to know about Raymond Davis when across the world news was flashed in almost all the newspapers about a American who shot dead two people in Lahore. The TV channels  of Pakistan were bursting with all kind of conspiracy theories. Pakistanis were simmering with anger that their nation was being targeted by the brute Americans because they were Muslims. The terrorist organisations in Pakistan were seeking death for all Americans. Raymond was arrested for murder and there was a strong public opinion that he be hanged. The Government of Pakistan was in a quandary. The Americans started to apply heat on them. The Americans threatened that they would block all funds running into billions incase their citizen was harmed in addition to punishing them militarily. Then after a few months news emerged that Raymond was released and flown back to the US. So what happened ? Everthing remained in wraps. After nearly 6 years the cover from the mystery was lifted when Raymond Davis wrote this book and related the inside story about what actually happened.

On 27.1.11 Raymond was driving his SUV in Lahore. He never disclosed where he was going.
As he reached the busy Mozang chowk he noticed two men riding on a motorcycle just in front of his SUV. Suddenly the person back riding turned and whipped out a gun and aimed at Raymond. He perhaps was not aware that the CIA man was a well trained shooter. In a flash Raymond pulled his Glock 17 and fired several shots. The bullets travelled through the wind shield leaving a hole and hit precisely the man aiming at him. He was killed instantly. The motorbike skidded. Another bullet hit the rider and he also collapsed. Raymond was later arrested in the market and then handed over to the ISI the dreaded intelligence wing of the Pakistan military. Later it was known that the assassins name were Haider and Faheem. They were from the LeT a known terrorist organisation whose Chief is Hafeez Sayeed. The same terrorist organization which targets India and is part of Pakistan security establishment. However Pakistan never accepted that these two assassins belonged to the LeT.
The entire episode exposed the sham judiciary system of Pakistan, the hand of ISI in every institution, Pakistan shameful dependency on a foreign country, the powerful hold of terrorist organisations on the Govt and public opinion.
The book draws attention to the following issues relating to Pakistan :
1. Mr Butt was the public prosecutor. Raymond states that the first time he was produced in the court the prosecutor told the judge that “Your honor, Mr. Davis shot two armed men who tried to shoot him.milliseconds away from doing just that."
The second time he told “Your honor, Mr. Davis shot two armed men, but they meant him no harm."
The third time he claimed that the two men David shot were ISI agent.
The fourth time Butt claimed that the two men on the motorcycle didn’t even have guns.
So what kind of court proceedings is this? Why the Judges just keep quiet and does not question the prosecution in cases relating to terrorists? Their conduct clearly shows that as Judges they are least bothered to discharge their duties honestly to dispense justice. The few who perform their duties have to run away from Pakistan. Remember the case of Mumtaz Qadri. The judge Pervez Ali Shah who pronounced the death sentence fled the country. The judiciary system of Pakistan is a junk show. Judges are threatened and they encourage delaying tactics. Even dreaded terrorists like Lakhvi, Hafeez Sayeed, Masood Azhar could not be convicted and are roaming free. No nation or citizen is safe where such a tattered form of judiciary exist.
2. Pakistan heavy dependency on the US for funds have made it a slave state. Sort of servant status who is ready to do anything provided he is compensated. The total aid to Pakistan has crossed $80 billion. A staggering amount. The worrying part is that most of this has never been utilised for the purpose for which it was given. A major part of the billions were siphoned off. Some went into the pockets of the Generals and some to raise and support the terrorist organisations. The US never seriously demanded a explanation for these fraudulent acts. Now Pakistan has become so dependent upon these generous dole outs that it can even sell its self respect.
3. Jinnah is the Father of the Nation of this Islamic state. However Jinnah's was just opposite to what a true Muslim should be. Jinnah wore hand-tailored suits and silk ties. He drove imported cars. He never wore a beard. He drank whiskey. He ate pork. He mainly spoke English. He married a non-Muslim. Apart from this Jinnah ideology was communal. He divided India on the basis of religion in which one million were killed and 20 million were displaced. Such a person has no right to be respected  and there you make him Father of the Nation !
4.The Islamization of Pakistan further took it into the dark ages. The book describes
"During his eleven-year reign, Zia succeeded in changing life in Pakistan from the ground up. He used government funds to build thousands of madrassas, religious schools that teach an austere form of Islam and often promote jihad. Books that were considered un-Islamic were heavily edited or removed from libraries. Western culture was vilified. The national television network PTV replaced music videos with patriotic songs. Theaters that showed Western films were shut down. Women were ordered to cover their heads while in public, restricted from attending school or playing sports, and saw their value in the eyes of the law literally reduced to a fraction of a man’s. And every Muslim adult was required to pay zakat, giving a small percentage of his wealth to his community’s poor each year" A sort of Talibisation.
It is these thousands of Madrassas which are factories producing extremists on a daily basis endangering the lives of people not only in Pakistan but all over the world. Baitullah Mehsud the creator of TTP also came out from one of these radical Madrassas.
5.The entire legal system was changed by Zia.
" Zia created the Federal Shariat Court and the Shariat Appellate Bench of the Supreme Court and empowered them to decide cases based on the teachings of the Koran. Overseen exclusively by Muslim judges, these courts could review any existing law for its conformity with the injunctions of Islam and invalidate those that didn’t pass muster."
Murder laws were finally modified and the Qisas and Diyat Ordinance, which required murders to be tried under Sharia law, was adopted."
So today as matter stands the legal system of Pakistan instead of being in line with modern times has been shifted to medieval times. In such a situation a alleged victim can never expect a fair trial when the entire system is heavily wrapped in a religious fervour. Adding to this is the blasphemy law which can be applied any time to victimize Non Muslims.
6. The hand of the all powerful ISI even controls the Judges. Specially in terrorist related cases the Judge trying the case has to pronounce judgments as per the instruction of the ISI. Davis describes his final hearing in the court as under
"One of the few people allowed to stay behind was General Pasha, who’d been continually texting Ambassador Munter, updating him about the court proceedings. I imagine that at least one of his texts described the entrance of a man in a suit, whom I recognized but whose name I couldn’t recall. As soon as this man entered the courtroom, the room went silent. No one spoke a word. If a cell phone rang, the person to whom it belonged got up and walked outside to answer it. The only thing you could hear was the ceiling fan. The response this man’s presence got was strange but also oddly familiar.
Carmela and my team of attorneys were sitting directly in front of the cage, and I leaned forward, got Paul’s attention, and pointed to the man in the suit. “Who is that guy?”
“Him? He’s an ISI colonel. Why?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I thought so. He questioned me at the police station in Cantonment the day of the incident. I figured he was ISI. Why’s he here?”
“He’s a fixer.”
What else is required to prove that Pakistani Courts are Kangaroo courts. The ISI man talks to the Judge then changes the Court to Sharia court. Under the Sharia law a murderer can be tried under Diyat and so Raymond was tried under it .
6. In all civilized society a murderer is tried for murder and given punishment. In Pakistan a murderer  can get away by paying money to relatives of the murdered man. Isn't it strange? This is called blood money and is allowed under Diyat of Sharia laws. Life is so cheap in Pakistan. Almost all honor killings and terrorists escape punishment through this Diyat route.
Under pressure from the US the Pakistan Government took this face saving route to free Raymond and instructed ISI to implement it. However this requires consent of all the relatives and the ISI ensured this on gun point. Each relative was paid $130,000 each for a total of $2,340,000, the largest amount of blood money ever awarded in Pakistan.
The origin of this hefty amount paid were never disclosed.
“The United States did not pay any compensation,” Clinton reiterated.
Technically, what she said was true. According to the New York Times, ISI paid the money, and the US government later reimbursed the Pakistani government.
This book exposes the jungle raj which is prevails in Pakistan.
Do read it to get a idea of how Pakistan is a sinking country and how the terrorists rule there with impunity.

THE LAST DAYS OF HITLER

THE LAST DAYS OF HITLER BY TREVOR ROPER      13.09.17

There are tons of books on Hitler. Mostly they are centered around his military conquest of Europe. Between 1939 and June 1941 the German army invaded and occupied many countries, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Yugoslavia, Greece, Norway and Western Poland. However there are few books which describes the last days of Hitler and fewer which are authentically based on credible research. This particular book belongs to the latter category. The author of this book Trevor was a intelligence officer in the British intelligence service and actively served in  the British occupied portion of Berlin in 1945. At that time it was widely rumoured that Hitler never died in his bunker but escaped with his mistress Eva Braun to some western country. The Russian Army which was first to enter his bunker claimed that they never found  his body and it was they who said that he had probably escaped. In order to put to rest all type of speculations regarding Hitlers death the British Army decided to officially appoint Trevor to investigate the matter and unravel the truth. Trevor went through thousands of war documents and interviewed hundreds of German military officers including those who were present in the bunker during the last days. This is what the book is all about.

History is a wayward maiden. Its interpretation vary according to the political beliefs of the person handling it. The actual events are either distorted or changed to arrive at a particular conclusion depending upon the political leaning of the person. However the results and affects of events cannot be hidden since it is there for everybody to see. For example the deaths and cruelty carried out by Nazi Germany easily proves that Hitler was a psychopath but some describe him as a nationalist. I have tried to give below some of the highlights of the book and their significance in understanding the issues which they represent .

1. As the Russian army closed on Berlin in the last days of August 1945 Hitler holed himself in a bunker 50 feet below the Chancellery. The man who roared liked a lion became a mad roaring lion. He was not able to digest his defeat and constantly rebuked and abused his Generals and close associates. He began blaming the Nazi Army which he said was a bunch of cowards and lacked the qualities of a true Aryan. The army has let him down. The fact was that there was never a structure in place which decided the course of war and strategies by discussions and consensus. A sort of Military High Command. It was Hitler and only Hitler which decided and issued orders. The rest were just minions. If anybody suggested anything contrary to Hitler decision he was rebuked by him.

There is a important lesson to be learnt here. We now more clearly understand what a dictator is and the extent of damage he is capable of inflicting on the nation. In a democracy at least we have the option to reject leaders with such tendencies during polls. Here in India we know the present PM liking for controlling everything. The various Ministries cannot take decision by themselves. They have to obtain clearance from PMO for every matter which means the PM is behaving as some sort of a dictator. No wonder he sleeps for 4 hours only as his propaganda team says. This however is not good for the nation.

2. Propaganda played a crucial role in the Nazi setup. When the regime is cantered around a single individual and the people have vested their entire trust on him then it has to have a continuity without any breaks. Failures cannot be disclosed and defeats cannot be publicized .

The myth that the leader is impregnable has to be sustained at all costs. In the end of 1941 everybody started realising the Germany defeat was not far. The Russians were aggressively dominating the Nazi army. The US had entered the war and the Allied forces were mercilessly bombarding German cities. In the middle of 1944 the Russian army was knocking at the doors of Berlin and D-day was not far off. The collapse of Hitler Germany was written large on the wall. Goebbel was the head of the propaganda ministry. Imagine a Ministry for propaganda !!

The Ministry at that stage was busy churning out false information that the Fuehrer was in control of everything and victory was imminent. Infact Goebbel declared that any talk of defeat will be punished by death. At no stage the people were informed that Germany has lost the war.

The height of deception was reached when the Nazi government announced death of Hitler on 1st May 1945 when Hitler was already dead on 30th august. There was no mention that he  had committed suicide.

This organised propaganda machine in hiding facts and relaying a false narrative contributed vastly to the massive destruction of lives and material. It took the war to a suicidal end which could have been prevented. Today the same kind of organised propaganda machinery is being created by the BJP. The BJP has a exclusive IT cell to spread false news. It is reported that it is manned by around 1000 personnel's. Some of the false news spread by this wing can be found here https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-top-fake-news-spread-by-BJP-IT-cell-in-2017. This IT cell of BJP is constantly trying to spread communal hatred and even defend killers. The moment anybody expresses a opposite opinion  he would be attacked by thousands of abuses. Sexiest remarks against women and independent thinkers are a daily occurrence. Recently on the death of Gauri Lankesh by RW Hindutva goons the IT cell of the BJP released thousands of responses celebrating her murder. One even wrote “A bitch has died a dog’s death and now all the pups are whining in one voice". Incidentally PM is following this person on twitter and he has obstinately refused to unfollow him. So the message is clear from the highest quarter of the Government to BJP followers that continue the dirty propaganda.

As in case of Nazi Germany this form of governance where truth is suppressed and falsehood is encouraged is going to heavily damage the nation.

3. Trevor states that Hitler had a  incredible  will-power,  whose hypnotic  influence, compelled even his critics to worship and obey. How did he achieve this? There was Dr Morell his personal physician who concocted many drugs which produced hypnotic and delirious effects. He confessed after the war that these drugs were daily given to Hitler. Hitler was a master in oratory and combined with his hypnotic powers was able to cast a spell on the audience. Somewhat similar to what Mr Modi does. I don't mean that Modi takes drugs but people get trapped into his oratory and are unable to sift the truth from the lies. Here is a lesson to be learnt. Instead of being misled by his oratory one should discover and acknowledge the ground realities. For example Modi speeches leads you to believe that demonetisation was a great step whereas the ground reality is that it was a disaster. The personality of a person should never be allowed to over shadow the real events.

Trevor writes and I quote

"There used to be a school of historical thought  which held that the course of human history

was determined largely by political and  economic  factors  rather  than  by the characters  and actions of individuals. My own experience during this last war has emphasized to me

the immense, and in some cases decisive influence exercised on the course of events by

individual personalities."

4. Hitler enjoyed absolute power and the Nazi party led by him ruled every segment of the German society. No man can escape the corruption of absolute power. With all opposition voices mercilessly silenced and intolerance at its peak it was futile to suggest any course correction. There was only one view point which was correct and that was of Hitler. Anything contrary was considered anti national. This drove the fate of Germany into a blind alley from which there was no return. Slowly the entire nation was sinking and ultimately destroyed with Hitler committing suicide. We are today passing through a similar phase. The RSS/BJP juggernaut tearing across India like a hurricane is demolishing all resistance to its advance. This is a very worrisome development and may end up destroying India like Germany under Hitler. The absolute power of Modi has certainly unleashed violence , communal hatred and even killings of independent thinkers.

5. It is interesting to know that Hitler was a vegetarian and even had a separate vegetarian kitchen in the bunker and a vegetarian cook. I mention this because there is a notion in our country that vegetarian food generates higher consciousness and non violent temperament and inner peace. 6 million Jews were exterminated under Hitler rule and more than 10 million perished in the war. Hitler personally ordered the killings of many of his close associates who  became his critics. Even  Hermann Fegelein the brother-in-law of Eva Braun was shot on orders of Hitler one week before Hitler committed suicide . So when vegetarians assume a sort of superiority complex and look down on meat eaters I point my finger towards Hitler !

6. Everybody is familiar with the old saying " Those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad" or "विनाश काले विपरीत बुद्धि". From 1935 to 1941 Hitler achieved spectacular victories occupying nearly half of Europe. He started believing that he is a military genius and specially sent by God to earth to rule the world. He attacked Russia and made his biggest blunder. The Russian bear with all its power chased him to the bunker and destroyed him. The second mistake he made was by appointing himself as the commander-in-chief of the army and refusing to heed advise of his Generals on crucial matters of war. He declared war against the US and further exposed himself to attacks. In his madness to destroy Britain and Russia simultaneously he opened two fronts and was sandwiched between east and west. There are many other reasons for his defeat but essentially all of them stemmed from his ego centered personality and his lunatic conviction that he was invincible. The biggest lesson we learn here is that a nation should never be lead by a megalomaniac. This lesson is relevant in today's political climate prevailing in India.

7. Amidst all this vicious and bloody carnage which Hitler waged for nearly 10 years one thing stood steadily and nobody could defeat it. It was love. Love of Eva Braun for Hitler. She suffered ignominy, insults ,discomfort and finally accepted the poison pill without a murmur which Hitler gave to her. No matter what the world said she never demurred from her duty to take care of Hitler and ultimately gave her life for him. Just one day before they both committed suicide Hitler married her and gave her the satisfaction at last to be officially designated as Mrs Fuhrer.

There is one stream of historians who believe that Hitler killed Eva Braun and he himself escaped to Argentina. Neither Hitler nor Eva Braun bodies were ever found.

8. Everything thing ended when Hitler committed suicide on 30April 1945 at about 3PM after taking his lunch. The Third Reich collapsed like a pack of cards. All the top high ranking officials of Hitler coterie committed suicide or were killed.

Hitler                           The Fuhrer                                             Blew up his head with a pistol

Eva Braun                    Hitler's wife                                           Took poison pills

Joseph Goebbels         Reich Minister of Propaganda             Took poison pills together with his

                                                                                                                     Wife & 6 children

Martin Borman            Chief of the Party Chancellery            Shot by Russians while fleeing

Heinrich Himmler      Head of dreaded SS                                    Committed suicide

Hermann Göring      President of the Reichstag           Tried at Nuremberg. Committed suicide

Rudolf Hess               Deputy Führer                             Tried at Nuremberg. Committed suicide

Albert Speer           Reich Minister of Armaments         20yrs imprisonment

Thus ended the era of a evil genius who played the communal and nationalism card to satisfy his never ending hunger for power and in the process destroyed his nation. This book can be considered a authentic version of events during the last 10 days of Hitler and plays a crucial part in deciphering the state of mind of Hitler during his defeat.

All those who are interested in history of WW2 would find this book very interesting and informative.

RAM MANDIR

RAM MANDIR

04.04.17

I had gone through the article written by Chetan Bhagat( Times of India dated 02/04/17) batting for building of a Ram Mandir at Ayodhya at the disputed site where a mosque stood and was demolished by goons of the Sangh Parivar. The article is basically not worth the paper on which it is written. It is a childish attempt to trivialize a issue whose outcome would have a large scale effect on the future of our republic. It will decide whether we are a civilised society believing in laws and the constitution or a banana republic which runs on whims and fancies and religious sentiments. It will decide whether the country is to be run by majoritarianism dictates which bull dozes the respect and honor of the minority communities and pushes them into second rate citizens. It is clearly not a issue of building a temple. It is a political issue for the Sangh Parivar and a step toward realising the dream of the RSS in making India a Hindu Rashtra. All this talk about Hindu sentiments is a facade to hide the intentions of the right wing Hindutva sections of our society to destroy the cultural harmony of our multicultural heritage. There is no doubt that this Chetan Bhagat is a important link of this network of sick minds who rides the Hindu religious wagon in pursuance of a goal which has nothing to do with development. Nevertheless he has a right to his views no matter how obnoxious it is. In this particular article he has given three arguments against building of the Ram temple ( Though there are many more ) and then proceeds to demolish them. Let us examine his logic ,if there is any, since he relies more on sentiments.

 1. Why disturb the status quo ?
If you see the video footage of the demolishing of the Babri Masjid any civilized person would be shaken at the goondaism which was openly  perpetuated under the leadership of senior leaders of the BJP. It was a matter of destroying a place of workship. More than that it was intended to hurt the psyche of the Muslim community and to show them their place. Instill in them fear and make them realise that they have no place in this country. It was all pre planned including the plan to say sorry when the mission was accomplished. I don't see any parallel of such brutality against a place of worship anywhere in the world. And please don't quote Pakistan since we are not Pakistan. Saying sorry afterwords  with a glee is like rubbing salt in the wounds. The right thing would have been to build the Masjid again. This would have served the end of justice. The Hindutva right wing instead of repenting for its deeds is now demanding that the Muslims should forget and voluntarily hand over the land for building the temple. First you break their mosque and them have the temerity to ask for handing over the land for building the temple. In the name of harmony between communities !! If tomorrow Mr Chetan Bhagat house is razed to the ground by some land mafia and then they demand the land to be handed over for building a plaza would he agree. Certainly not. He would demand his property to be restored and his house built again. That is what justice demands. But in this case Mr Chetan cleverly circumvents justice by taking the sentimental path. He claims that there is proof that there was a temple below the masjid and Ram was born exactly at the same place. Even the Allahabad High court did not consider this claim while issuing its verdict. There is no historical evidence to substantiate this argument. The Babarnama (Chronicles of Babur) does not mention either the mosque or the destruction of a temple. Tulsidas, who began writing the Ramcharit Manas in Ayodhya on Rama's birthday in 1574 (coming there from his normal residence in Varanasi) mentioned the "great birthday festival" in Ayodhya but made no mention of a mosque at Rama's birthplace. Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak (1551–1602), who wrote Akbarnama, completing the third volume Ain-i Akbari in 1598, described the birthday festival in Ayodhya, the "residence of Rama" and the "holiest place of antiquity", but made no mention of a mosque. The fact is that Ayodhya is the birth place of Lord Rama as ancient books and scriptures mention. To say that that Lord Ram was born exactly where the Babri Masjid stood is mischievous. Ram mandir can be built and that too a grand one at any place in Ayodhya and this would not reduce its majesty or lessen the faith of the believers.

Mr Chetan writes that there are thousands of mosques build over temples by the Mughals. How does Mr Chetan knows this? Has he any evidence or is he fanning communal hatred? This seems to be a veiled threat. Surrender or they may also become target of the Hindutva demolishing squad. It is sad that a educated person who has written books ( Which nobody reads) behaving like a street ruffian. Go one step ahead and he is offering a grand Masjid in lieu of the demolished one. I mean how childish a person can become. Offering toys in return for surrendering ones honour. The contention of Mr Chetan that  this is the demand of all Hindus in India which are nearly 100 crores is entirely misleading. As a Hindu I can vouch that majority of Hindus are secular and respect all religions. They never want a Mandir after breaking a mosque. Their faith just not allows this. After all then what difference will remain between a group of blood thirsty marauders and a civilised, law abiding people. It would be better if Mr Chetan refrain from self appointing himself as the leader of all the Hindus in this country.

Does it behoves us to dig in the past and come out with bits of information about so called atrocities committed by the Muslims to substantiate our efforts to build a Hindu Rashtra

We are living in the 21st century with a strong and vibrant India. Let us not live in the past and waste our time in trying to restore past glory of bygone centuries. We have to make our future strong by building strong technology and not by building Mandirs on imaginary disputed sites.

Apart from above Mr Chetan forgets that this is a dispute pending in the Supreme Court. A criminal act has been performed and the culprits have to be punished according to the laws of the land. It is a title dispute and the real owners have to decided. The Muslim community has already given its commitment to abide with whatever decision is given by the court. But Mr Chetan does not want the status quo but wants to usurp the powers of the Highest Court. Perhaps he senses that his case is weak and so he brings in sentiments and faith to strengthen his unfounded claims on the Babri Masjid land. He may please note that only a fascist nation rules by sentiments of the majority. The status quo has to remain till the SC gives its decision.

 2. Build a hospital instead
Yes why not ? Infact this is the most sensible suggestion. Here Mr Chetan just repeat his illogical contention that the Mandir has to be built exactly at the same spot. We have seen above that there is no sustainable evidence that Lord Ram was born there. So a grand Lord Ram Mandir can be built anywhere in Ayodhya. Moreover a Mandir built where a Masjid stood once somehow robs its purity and sanctity. Building a modern hospital in the service of humanity would not only serve a higher purpose but would be a shining example of India's secular credentials.

 3. But God is everywhere , so why here
Here Mr Chetan accepts that there is no proof about Lord Ram birth place. Then what is the hue and cry about ? The matter should have ended. But since Mr Chetan wants to inflame the situation he insist that excavation has shown that there was a temple below. He has at least climbed down from Ram temple exists to only a temple. By the way the many eminent archaeologist have disputed the 2003 ASI report. They have alleged that the report was tailored to suit the claims of the saffron brigade.

" But even well-known archaeologists involved in the excavation are doubtful about the findings. Says Sita Ram Rai, former director of the Bihar Archaeology Department who spent a fortnight during the excavation in Ayodhya: "The ASI has carved pillars out of the excavated floor to draw some inaccurate conclusions.
It has released its report with motivated suggestions and willful omissions, making it clear that its saffronised heart is in the right place." Rai, who was summoned by the Allahabad High Court bench (where the ASI report was opened) to make his observations, said no structure had been demolished before the construction of the mosque.
He and three other archaeologists, who made a detailed study of the method of excavation and the artefacts recovered from the site, believe that there was no temple at Ayodhya. Clearly, neither the VHP nor its vocal supporters are listening. "

It is therefore still disputed that there was a temple below the Babri Masjid. To insist that the Ram Mandir should be built there only is motivated by mischievous designs. By the way what is wrong in stating that God resides everywhere. It seems that Mr Chetan sees God only on that particular spot where Babri Masjid stood. If this is the behavior of a educated person then there is seriously something wrong with our education system. The Hindu always sees God even in a particle. And I assume that Mr Chetan is a Hindu. I mean the right type not the fanatic type.

In the end I would only add that India is a vibrant multi cultured society encompassing several religions and languages. Those who are creating a rift between communities and trying to impose majoritarianism is doing a great disservice to the nation. They are neither patriots and neither nationalist. They are only rats nibbling away the great pluralistic traditions of this ancient country. Ram mandir has become a tool for retaining political power by such unscrupulous persons. I hope Mr Chetan direct his energies towards more productive purposes. Like learning to write good books so that people start reading them.

Meanwhile just allow Ram mandir to rest till the SC gives its decision in the matter or build a hospital there.
